Turbo 26 is OPEN!!

Last week, I wrote about our delays getting open and the stress of having to do damage control with my instructors, who were counting on teaching, and my founding customers, who were eagerly anticipating the opening. Rather than the loud grand opening we were planning originally, Turbo 26 opened with a whisper on December 21st. The inspector came at noon and gave us our occupancy, and I taught the first class at 5:00 PM. Three people showed up. Woohoo! We are finally open!

Set-backs are Good!

The past week has been a little rough in my insular Turbo 26 world. We had set our grand opening date to December 9th and all cylinders were firing to make that opening. We were marketing and promoting. We were training and scheduling yoga instructors. We were staging our supplies in my garage. On December 7th, my contractors told me no. We are not opening on the 9th. We need an extra week. Circumstances beyond our control, etc., etc.

Soul Cycle

Since developing my business plan for Turbo 26 Studio, I have been saying I want to inject a little Soul Cycle into yoga. What I meant by that was a motivation to push physically beyond your comfort zone.

Many yoga classes, while they may be physically challenging, offer the option to take it easy. “Listen to your body. Child’s pose is there for you any time you need it.” That’s the mantra I hear all the time in yoga. At Turbo 26, on the other hand, we say, “yes, child’s pose is there for you, but you don’t need it. You are stronger than you think. You got this!”

Every yoga pose can be easy or it can be hard. Strength comes from pushing beyond the edge of discomfort. You can do it. Even if your mind is telling you you’ve done enough, you can do more. If you have arrived on your mat, if you have bothered to show up, you owe it to yourself to rise to the occasion and be your best self. You are stronger than you think.

Inspiration. Perspiration. Transformation.

I recently wrote a blog post called “Why I Hate Yoga,” and being that I am an avid yogi, it’s not surprising that this particular post got quite a lot of attention – some positive and some not-so-positive. I guess it’s good to get the conversation started.

Truthfully, I believe that there is no bad yoga. It’s all good. It’s just that I like some formats and some styles better than others. I think it’s wonderful that there are so many varieties of yoga, so hopefully whatever inspires you move your body and connect with your spirit,
