Get Down to Business

If you’re anything like me, September is the month to get down to business, refocus and commit. After the craziness of summer, finally the kids are back in school, work gets back on track, and you finally settle back into a manageable routine. So, what better time to get motivated, decide what’s really important, and align your actions with your intentions. As sad as I am to see summer fade into the rearview mirror, I am excited and optimistic for what’s to come! This is it! My time is now! Join me for the month of September, and let’s make this the best month ever!
Step one, and our intention this week at Turbo 26 Studio, is Desire. What do you truly want? This is not a hope or a wish, but rather it is a definitive goal that you can achieve if you set your mind to it and believe that you are worth it. Opportunity is all around, so take a look and decide. Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to start a business? Do you want to find true love? Do you want to learn to play guitar? YOU are the only one who knows what YOU want. Get clear on your desires first, and then with faith, focus, discipline, and practice, you’ll start moving in the right direction.
Which brings me to step two and our intention next week: Faith. Believe that you are worth it. Believe that you can do it. Believe that it is yours already. Faith is a state of mind that believes in goodness. When you say over and over to yourself (or better even to say it aloud) that you are worth it and you will achieve it, your subconscious mind begins to believe it too, and then desire combined with faith make it yours. The human mind is so powerful. Do not let self-doubt sabotage you! If you resolve to discard all negative thought, replace any feelings of doubt and insecurity with faith, and truly believe, then you have the right mindset to achieve whatever your heart desires.
With clear goals and a positive outlook, it’s time to get busy. Anything worth accomplishing requires a good plan of action and discipline to get the job done. No one said it would be easy. Nothing worthwhile ever is. But it is worth the effort. YOU are worth the effort. If you truly want something and you believe you are worthy of achieving it, then now is the time to put in the work and reap the rewards! Step three and our intention for the third week of September is Discipline. Set aside the appropriate amount of time and energy each day to focus on the action steps that move you in the direction of your desires. Do not be discouraged by setbacks or failures. They are part of the process. Discipline your thoughts and discipline your actions to align towards your goals. Do the work. There is no easy way around that. If you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. Every day, every moment, that you do the activities that move you in the right direction, are days and moments of joy and fulfillment. Keep the faith and keep on keeping on!
The final step, and our last intention for the month of September, is Practice. It’s time to put it all together and practice what you believe in. You’ve heard the expression, “practice makes perfect.” Well, I respectfully disagree. I prefer the expression, “practice makes permanent,” because what you practice becomes your habit - good or bad. Take a basketball player who practices a free throw over and over again, but has a low success rate. A bad technique can sabotage all that practice, and it can be so so hard to change a bad habit into a good one. In pursuit of your desires, please take the time to practice good habits. Be kind to yourself. Believe that you are worthy. Be persistent. Practice with intention. Live your best life every moment of every day!
I say this all the time at the studio, but truly, what you can accomplish on your yoga mat, you can achieve in your life. Just 26 minutes with you and your mat provides the strength, clarity, focus, and discipline to tackle whatever challenges you are facing and goals you have set. Yoga grants the space in which to align your actions with your intentions, so when you step off your mat you are READY - with peace, kindness and generosity - to take on the world.
Step one - desire. Step two - believe. Step three - discipline. Step four - practice. I believe in you! You got this!!! And, here’s a bonus: Step five - don’t go it alone! Surround yourself with people who believe in you. I like to create a personal board of advisors to help motivate me and keep me moving in the right direction. Choose people who support you, inspire you, and tell you the truth. Find like-minded people and take the journey together. It’s more fun, more fulfilling, and you’ll increase your chances of success by a lot!
